Sativa Building Systems Z Panel Block Overview
We are the Canadian manufacturer of the patented Sativa Building Systems Z panel Hempcrete block panel. Our blocks interlock and go together fast and efficiently without the use of mortar saving time and money. They go in between 2×4 or 2×6 stud frame walls 16″oc. The assembly time is 30% faster than conventional building methods.
What is the Hemprete Z Panel Block?
- It’s a pre-cast block/panel made of hempcrete (hemp shiv/hurd + lime + pozolan + water) manufactured at our facilities in Barrhead Alberta
- It is designed to be used in standard light-frame (wood or steel) construction and works as a wall component in residential and commercial buildings.
- It replaces five traditional wall materials including: exterior siding, tyvek, vapor barrier, insulation, gypsum board drywall
Hemprete Z Block Specifications
-
Panel size: ~24in height × 12in thick x 16in wide (interior width ~14.5in) * We can also make 9in thick blocks
- Weight: ~50 lbs per block
- Embedded 2×4 wood furring stud on the interior and exterior for fastening.
- Built with locally sourced hemp hurd, hydrated type S lime, Enviro poz and water
Key Features & Technical Highlights
- Thermal / insulation performance: Sativa Building Systems Z Panel has an R-value equivalent of ~30 and a thermal mass effect (which helps moderate indoor temperature swings).
- Hygro-regulation / moisture & indoor air benefit: Because hempcrete is vapour-permeable and hygroscopic, the panels help regulate indoor humidity, and reduce the risk of mold, etc.
- Fire / pest / mold resistance: The panels are described as Class A fire rated (per NFPA testing) and resistant to mold, pests, rot.
- Carbon-negative / sustainable: Each panel reportedly sequesters ~1.1 kg CO₂e.
- Installation speed / integrative design: The block/panel sits into standard framing; interlocking features are built in for vertical/horizontal alignment.
Structurally Insulated Hemp Panels
Hemp SIP Panel Building System Overview
Our proprietary Hemp Structural Insulated Panels (Hemp SIPs) represent the next generation of sustainable construction technology.
They combine the proven efficiency of prefabricated SIP systems with the health, durability, and environmental performance of hemp-based materials.
These panels form the structural envelope for walls, floors, and roofs in residential, commercial, and community buildings—offering rapid assembly, superior insulation, and long-term carbon storage.
High Thermal Performance – Natural insulation with superior R-values reduces heating and cooling energy demand by up to 50%.
Vapor-Permeable and Mold Resistant – Regulates humidity, creating a healthier indoor environment.
Class A Fire Rating – Non-combustible materials provide enhanced protection against wildfires and ember attacks.
Pest and Rot Resistant – No organic decay or pest attraction.
Carbon Negative – Each panel locks away CO₂ absorbed by hemp during growth, helping offset emissions.
Fast and Scalable Installation – Prefabrication allows homes to be assembled on-site in days instead of weeks.
Competitive Advantage Scalability & Market Opportunity
Unlike conventional SIPs that rely on petroleum-based foams (EPS/XPS), Hemp SIPs are biogenic, breathable, non-toxic, and non-flammable.
They eliminate the off-gassing, moisture entrapment, and fire hazards associated with traditional panels while achieving comparable or superior insulation values.
This innovation positions our company as a leader in the carbon-neutral building sector, serving a growing demand for eco-smart, fire-safe, and energy-efficient homes in North America.
With increasing wildfire risk, energy-efficiency mandates, and consumer awareness of healthy housing materials, the demand for sustainable prefabricated systems is accelerating.
Our Hemp SIP technology offers a scalable solution for developers, builders, and governments seeking to build climate-resilient communities that meet new green building standards.
